Global fluid catalytic cracker capacity to reach 15.8MMbd by 2026

According to GlobalData, global FCC capacity is set to grow over the next years, with Asia and Africa leading additions globally.

GlobalData’s latest report, “Global Capacity and Capital Expenditure Outlook for Refineries, 2022,” indicates that global fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) capacity is expected to witness a growth of 9.3% over the next four years, potentially increasing from 14.4 million barrels per day (MMbd) in 2022 to 15.8 MMbpd by 2026.

North America’s FCC capacity is expected to reach 6.3MMbd in 2026, the highest among all regions globally. Asia and Europe follow with 4.5MMbd and 1.4MMbd, respectively. 

In terms of capacity additions, Asia and Africa would lead globally for FCC capacity additions during the 2022 to 2026 outlook period. Asia is expected to add 902 thousand barrels per day (Mbd) of FCC capacity by 2026 while Africa is expected to add 567Mbd.

The Lagos I refinery in Nigeria, the Yulong refinery in China, and the Coega refinery in South Africa are the top three upcoming refineries globally in terms of FCC capacity from 2022 to 2026. The Lagos I refinery is expected to start operations in 2022 with a capacity of 162.5Mbd, followed by Yulong and Coega with 140.6Mbd and 100Mbd, respectively.
